With Black Friday and Cyber Monday just around the corner, your website will need to be at the top of its game. With that in mind, we’ve put together our Top Three Tips to make sure your website’s design and infrastructure is in tip top shape coming into the holidays.
Get your Cyber Monday website design and landing pages ready
Everyone knows how popular Cyber Monday is and simply having your website design tweaked with a Cyber Monday design theme will help you increase sales, even if your specials and deals are limited. If a potential customers lands on a page that is heavily branded with “Cyber Monday” they immediately associate it with a good deal.
If you are really promoting certain goods and deals it’s a good idea to create separate landing pages for each one – branded with a Cyber Monday theme obviously. Sending your pay per click traffic to Cyber Monday-specific landing pages will greatly improve your conversion rates.
Make sure your website can handle the extra traffic load
There are few things more frustrating from an online consumers point of view than when a website loads slowly, loads incompletely or is down all together. These customers usually disappear and never come back; I know this because I’m one of them, and I bet you are too. Last year I tried to visit two websites on Cyber Monday and failed, because both sites were down. Not only did they miss out on my dollar that day, but I haven’t returned since.
You’ll need to make sure that your website hosting can handle the incoming surge in traffic without slowing down or shutting down. If you’re a small business, you probably use a shared hosting package (mainly because it is much cheaper) but that small saving you make can equal a huge amount of lost revenue on Black Friday and Cyber Monday if your website collapses under the pressure. A dedicated server or even some of the more reputable cloud solutions are a much better option, even if you use them temporarily over the November, December and January sales season. If you’re even slightly concerned that your hosting isn’t adequate, or worse still – don’t even know what hosting you’ve got, then contact your hosting provider now (today!) to ensure you’ll be ready when those customers come clicking.
Leverage Your Increased traffic on Cyber Monday to build your email marketing list
Your website is likely to see a massive spike in traffic on Cyber Monday and you should use this as an opportunity to build your email marketing list. You should make sure your site’s checkout has an option for the customer to sign up to your marketing list and you could even entice them with a special offer. You should also use exit intent pop ups to present offers to those users leaving your website without making a purchase. Remember, these buyers are in ‘deal mode’ so an offer for “Post Cyber Monday deals” is likely to entice them enough to give you their email address, at a bare minimum. Not every Cyber Monday visitor is going to convert into a sale but there’s no reason why they can’t be converted at a later date.
Looking after these three things will make sure that everything runs seamlessly for you so that you can focus on maximizing sales!
