We believe that in order to be fresh, engaging and relevant, it’s important to give your content a makeover every now and then. So here are a few tips to get you started!
Keywords are important, but… for the sake of the sanity for your reader – do not use them to clutter up every single sentence! What’s the point in making your content visible if it’s not readable? Your content should be interesting and seem natural, not like it’s been regurgitated from the mouth of a spam-bot.
Stay ahead of the game. You need to be relevant, so whatever your niche, you should be in research mode 24/7. Check out forums, discussion boards, trends, news etc. The more information you have to hand, the easier it will be to generate ideas for content.
Develop your own voice. It’s important to let your personality shine through your writing as it’s what will make you stand out from the crowd. If a reader does a Google search on ‘retail news’ and is confronted with 10 articles on the same event, it’s up to you and your slant on the story to draw them in.
Don’t be afraid of visuals. Images rock and they bring more traffic to your site which also rocks. Infographics are a great way of illustrating a piece and simple images can also be used to compliment your copy.
Edit. Edit. Edit. Ensure that you check for spelling and grammatical errors on every single piece. Read it, re-read it and get someone else to read it. You’ll be surprised at the tiny mistakes which can be overseen.
