Although SEO stands for search engine optimization, everyone knows there is really only one search engine that matters. As long as your website pleases Google, you’ll do fine. So let’s take a look at some easy tactics you can implement to ensure Google loves your website as much as you do.
This should go without saying, but the content on your website should all be original—like, really original. Google knows what it’s looking at and it knows when copy came from another site. Even “spinning it” (using synonyms to change out words on someone else’s copy) is a huge risk and, frankly, probably more trouble than it’s worth.
Ok, you have original copy, now you need to show Google how much other people like it. As it’s a search engine, the only way it will really understand this is by proving it to Google through links. The search engine giant knows people tend to link to other sites out of approval and not randomly or because they hate something.
Building “backlinks” is an art unto itself. However, the best way to begin doing it is by providing copy, interviews or other forms of information to other sites, especially those with authority. At the beginning, the truth is that you may just have to work with whoever will take you. As time goes on though, work on climbing that ladder. Google listens to popular sites more than less-visited ones.
A quick note here, don’t even think about starting your own sites to backlink from. For one, as we just mentioned, this probably won’t work. Secondly, if Google finds out what you’re doing, you might as well start a brick-and-mortar store.
If you’re hoping to make it in eCommerce, hopefully you already understand the significance of keywords. You probably also already know that Google places a lot of importance on them, but not enough so that it wants to see you stuffing them into every single sentence.
Here’s the thing, though: keywords need to appear in other places besides your copy. You should be strategically and naturally using them in your meta tags too. Any links you place on your site should have them in there as well. This is how you get even more out of already good keywords.
Lastly, speaking of copy, write naturally. Keywords are still essential, but Google has shown that conversational copy is its priority now. The days of talking like a robot to please the keyword gods are long gone. Talk to humans and Google will listen.
