Cyber Monday Sales Exceed A Record Breaking $2 Billion
It looks like the record breaking didn’t end with the weekend, as comScore figures have revealed that Cyber Monday sales went over the $2 billion mark for the first time. With a 17% increase on 2013, Cyber Monday has set two new records; not only is it the only Cyber Monday to surpass the $2 billion mark, it’s also the biggest spending day in ecommerce history.
comScore Chairman emeritus, Gian Fulgoni, silenced critics upon release of the figures, saying ‘any notion that Cyber Monday is declining in importance is really unfounded, as it continues to post new historical highs and reflects the ongoing strength of online this holiday season.’… Read the full article
Over 50% of Black Friday Weekend Shoppers Lost At Check-Out
Only 2 in 5 US customers completed the online checkout process over the holiday weekend, according to stats from Analytics start up Formisimo. Despite the great online offers available, the numbers show that companies are losing frustrated customers due to a complicated checkout process. The UK and Europe also suffered high drop off rates with 70% of UK customers abandoning the shopping cart just before completion, and the worst culprit in Europe was France – which saw only 24% of shoppers making it through the checkout process.
CEO of Formisimo, Al Mackin, commented on the study and said that ‘after all the browsing and searching to find a great deal you’d be amazed at how many shoppers hate filling in their details in an online checkout – so much so that they go and buy from elsewhere.’… Read the full article
Thanksgiving eCommerce Sales Trump 2013 Figures
It will come as no surprise that comScore findings show this year’s Thanksgiving and Black Friday Sales have surpassed last year’s figures. Thanksgiving Day Sales went over the 1billion mark for the first time with a 32% jump to 1.01 billion, and Black Friday swam past last year’s figure by 26%, when it hit 1.51billion. With the two days combined, the total spend this year was 2.51billion, which trumps the 1.96billion figure from 2013.
In light of this record breaking weekend, comScore is very optimistic about the outcome of today’s Cyber Monday sales, as well as the sales over the festive season. comScore chairman emeritus, Gian Flugoni, said that ‘Thanksgiving and Black Friday both saw exceptionally strong online growth rates as each day surpassed $1 billion in desktop spending,…The strength we saw in the early online buying rush likely reflects a few things, including overall health in consumer spending, responsiveness to the strong deals being offered online, and perhaps some shoppers opting to stay home on Thanksgiving rather than head out to the stores that opened their doors early’….
